iStockphoto adds Editorial Images

iStockphoto has added a new collection of "editorial use only" stock images to www.istockphoto.com. These images are intended for use by news outlets, publishers, magazines, bloggers and presenters as a descriptive visual reference to a product, place, event or concept.

Editorial images are subject to a different, less restrictive set of content guidelines than images used commercially.

iStockphoto Now Accepting Contributor Submissions of Editorial Images

iStockphoto today announced to its community of more than 85,000 contributing artists that in January it will begin accepting images for use under a new "editorial use only" licensing agreement to be rolled out in early 2011. These images will be available to those needing non-released imagery such as news outlets, publishers, magazines, bloggers and presenters.

Because editorial only images may not be used for commercial purposes, they are not subject to the usual guidelines. Editorial images may be images of specific products or anything marked with a logo, also images of people without model releases or many buildings and landmarks that before may not be shown.

iStockphoto Announces Changes to its Search Technology

iStockphoto today announced a host of major search enhancements that make finding the perfect image, video or audio file easier than ever.

The most noticeable change, which has already been implemented, is the wide array of faceted search tools available directly on the search results page. These advanced tools give customers the ability to start a query using a broad term then dynamically tailor and narrow the search while viewing the new results in real-time. Behind the scenes, a proprietary new algorithm will take into account the language and location of the user and prioritizes their results accordingly.
