Shutterstock has a new tool to help contributors discover keywords with high customer demand.

The new Keyword Trends tool shows you what customers search for on Shutterstock, and how some words rise and fall with the seasons.

When you visit the tool for the first time, you’ll see five boxes at the top. Enter any search terms into those boxes. Or, click on the suggested keywords in the left-hand column, which are personalized based on your portfolio. The page will draw a line graph showing the relative popularity of those keywords over time.

Shutterstock has released a new search engine feature: a new sort order called Relevant.
When customers perform searches, they will see four buttons to filter their search results: New, Popular, Relevant and Random.

Relevant sort order is a way to deliver more accurate results to customers. It’s designed to get better over time. Results will vary from day to day, and may vary from user to user as they make adjustments.

What’s the difference between Popular and Relevant? Popular looks primarily at the number of times an image has been downloaded. Relevant is a more sophisticated algorithm that considers a mix of (unknown) factors.
