Shutterstock raised the commission for their contributors.
The new commission looks like this:
Contributors with less than $500 life time earnings will receive no raise. (That is $0.25 / download)
Contributors with $500 - $3000 life time eanrings will receive $0.33 / download. (Old commission $0.30, 10% increase)
Contributors with $3000- $10000 life time earnings will receive $0.36 / download. (Increase 20%)
Contributors over $10000 of total earnings will receive $0.38 / download. (Increase 27%)
Extend license commission increases for all contributors to $28 / download (Increase 40%).
While the raise is very appreciated by many contributors it is also very controversial and many are disappointed.
Some people are not pleased at all and voiced their concern and anger on microstock forums.
There are different reasons for this. One is that contributors with less than $500 of total earnings will get no raise apart from the Extended License commission.
The raise was also by many members expected to be much higher and there are complaints that Shutterstock increased the price much more for customers than they increased the commission for their contributors. (Edit: see correction)
However with Shutterstock allready being the top earner for many microstock photographers with this raise it strengthens it's lead for those contributors.
